MODEL U.N

H.S.A ATTENDS OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY MODEL U.N!!!

Please join me in congratulating Jenai Charlton, Kammeron Brissett, Talitha Holley for their outstanding performance at the 2008 Ohio Northern University Model United Nations conference held in Ada, Ohio on October 4th !

Though it’s been a long going world-wide tradition and very popular in the USA, Horizon Science Academy has attended a Model United Nations Conference for the first time in its history. Despite the short period of preparation, our three member delegation put forth lots of effort and did their best to represent, not only Indonesia (which was assigned to HSA) but our school as well.

The students are to accurately represent their country despite personal beliefs since Model UN is a simulation where students represent a nation in one of the UN Committees, and Talitha was quite diplomatic as she was giving a speech on behalf of Indonesia in the Committee of Energy and Environment.  She called other delegates’ attention to forest degradation and water pollution in Indonesia. Jenai represented Indonesia in the Committee of Human Rights, while Kammeron was playing out her ambassadorial role in the Committee of War, Disarmament and Arms Race where long and intense negotiations kept going.

Horizon Science Academy believes Model UN serves as a dynamic and innovative platform to help students develop the analytic and leadership skills necessary for success in their future endeavors.  For that reason, it seems that we will have more teams participating in future Model U.N. conferences. But for now, I want to congratulate once again our very first Model U.N. Team ever ! and Thank them all!
