Chinese Folk Music Troupe

HSA students and staff were enchanted by sounds of the Chinese Folk Music Troupe.  The 13 college-age students along with director performed courtesy of the Confucius Institute at Cleveland State University.  The group played traditional Chinese folk instruments:

Pipa- a Chinese Lute,

Yangqin – a Chinese dulcimer,

Guzheng - a long plucked zither used in Chinese traditional and classical music

Erhu- a bowed string instrument with two strings, used in traditional and classical

Zhonghu- a bowed string instrument with two strings, used in Chinese music; tuned lower than the erhu

Gaohu- a two-stringed vertical fiddle in the huqin family, used primarily in traditional Cantonese music as well as in the modern Chinese orchestra

Dizi- bamboo flute

Zhongruan- The medium size of ruan, a Chinese round-bodied fretted, plucked lute with four strings

Sheng- a hand-held free-reed mouth organ made from a dried gourd and 13 or more bamboo pipes

Suona- a woodwind instrument

CUEB’s Chinese Folk Music Troupe was found in 2006, with more than 50 members from different colleges and departments. It is one of the most influential clubs in CUEB. Under the support of the leaders of CUEB, the folk Music Troupe has rehearsed many outstanding music works with different genres from both China and abroad.
